Impress & Retain Your Employees With Work-Life Benefits

There is increased focus on the quality of life a job or career can allow employees to have. While large salaries, bonuses and other benefits may attract some employees, others are looking for employers that offer other types of benefits that are less tangible. Small or new businesses may not be able to compete on a financial level with large companies for quality employees, but there are work-life benefits that can attract and retain employees that put more value on their personal lives versus money or traditional benefits.

What Are Work-Life Benefits?

The idea behind work-life benefits is giving flexible options for employees to complete their jobs while still leaving time for their personal lives. This does not necessary mean working less time or putting in less effort but instead giving them opportunities to get their tasks done in a way that allows them to gain time and even money in other ways. Some examples of how these are used in the workplace include:

* Flexible work hours. Employees with families, school or other obligations may need to work a flexible shift to make time for daycare, hobbies or class schedules. For an employee that has these priorities, an employer that will work with their schedule may be more desirable than a higher salary or other benefits.

* Telecommuting. If there are certain tasks than can be done at home or away from the business, allowing employees to telecommute can save them transportation and childcare costs, making up for lost benefits they may get elsewhere.

* Personal Leave. Giving paid or unpaid leave when employees need it can build loyalty in ways that health or life insurance cannot.

* Creative incentives. Simple gestures can make a large impact on employees. Many companies allow employees to bring their dogs to work or have elaborate break areas to make their workplace more fun. Thinking outside the box and giving employees ways to enjoy their time on the job can make a large difference in attracting and retaining employees.

There are plenty of ways to make your company stand out and impress excellent candidates for your business team. Work-life benefits can gain your company a reputation as a caring employer that quality people want to work for.
